Kieku Oy’s egg packaging plant significantly increased its production capacity thanks to an automation solution delivered by Robotmation. In addition to improved production efficiency, employees’ physical workload was also substantially reduced.

Located in Loimaa, Kieku Oy is Finland’s largest modern egg packaging plant in full domestic ownership. The producer-owned company supplies responsibly produced, fresh eggs to grocery stores across the country.
Increasing capacity and reducing employees’ physical workload were key objectives when Kieku decided to enhance the production of its egg packaging facility. Robotmation was chosen as the partner to deliver a comprehensive automation solution.
“Based on our previous experience, we knew what Robotmation is capable of – we have been very satisfied with their work. Their proposal was excellent, and their vision aligned perfectly with ours,” says Jerkko Saarenvalta, Production Manager at Kieku Oy.

Robotmation’s delivery included automation for different stages of production: a pallet unloader for new egg cartons, a conveyor system for egg boxes, a case palletizing system, and robotic solutions for loading sales containers. Thanks to the new high-capacity line, production was nearly doubled compared to before. Robotmation also handled the dismantling of old equipment and the installation of new systems.
The objectives of improving employee ergonomics were also achieved. The user-friendliness of the equipment has received particular praise.
“There’s hardly any lifting required anymore. The equipment is clear and easy to use – basic operation is possible even without training,” says Saarenvalta.
Tight installation schedule was no obstacle
Since egg laying cannot be paused, the installation time had to be compressed into just a few demanding days. Work began on February 11th, test runs were conducted on the 16th, and by the 17th production was already back up and running.
“We had to cut 3–4 days off the normal schedule. Usually, you expect something to go wrong, but this time everything went perfectly,” Saarenvalta recalls.
In case of problems, help has always been easily available. According to Saarenvalta, the phone is always answered right away, and if an on-site visit has been needed, a technician has arrived at the packaging plant within an hour.
“We’ve never had to wait around all day.”
Collaboration with Robotmation, Saarenvalta says, has been exceptionally smooth.
